The 2007 season gets underway for real this week, but for most of the state's programs, scrimmages this weekend  provided a dress rehearsal for the main event.

On Friday at Corona Del Sol, Hamilton did all their damage in one 4 run inning and took the exhibition 4-1 over the Aztecs. The big blow for Hamilton was a lead off solo homer to straight away center by Jake Saylor. Pitchers had their way for the most part, as starters Justin Lindsey (Hamilton ) and Joey Schumer (CDS) each tossed a pair of solid innings.

Corona features a lineup that at times will include 4 sophomores. Soph shortstop Kirby Pellant singled and scored the games first run on an RBI knock by fellow '09'er Tyler Giannanotti. Later, Sophomore Keaton Quade lined a drive off the right field fence for a double. Coach David Webb has a good looking group of youngsters at Aztec Field

Many of you are aware that one of the top players in the 2008 class, Nick Carrillo of Sandra Day O'Connor, was struck by a line drive last week during a scrimmage. The following is  a note from the Carrillo family:

Most of you have heard about Nick Carrillo's
accident on the ball field last Thursday. He was pitching
and was hit in the temple with a line drive. He was
rushed to Barrow/St. Joe's for treatment. He was in
ICU for several days then moved to Neuro Acute. He
had surgery to repair a broken cheek bone. His other
fractures will heal with time. He is on the road to
recovery.

We just wanted to thank all of our baseball friends and
families for their phone calls, emails, texts and cards.
Your support, prayers and well wishes got us through
one of the most difficult experiences of our lifes.

Nick looks forward to being back on the ball field soon.
Thanks again everyone for your concern, it was much
appreciated.

See you at the ball park,
Nick, Karen and Larry Carrillo
