| Diamond Notes September 2006
September 29, 2006
Well, I'm back up and running again with a new
computer system after riding the old horse till she dropped. Thanks for
your patience in the interim.
The USA Baseball Junior National team dropped a
4-3 heartbreaker in the championship game of the IBF World
Championships. Tim Alderson and Kevin Rhoderick of Horizon both saw time
on the mound and Matt Newman of Brophy went 1-4 at the dish.
For the tournament, Newman played every game in
the outfield, hitting .269 with a pair of doubles and 5 runs scored.
Alderson did not allow an earned run in 8
innings on the mound, with 11 strikeouts and only 1 walk. He tossed 5
scoreless innings with 8 Ks in the US semi-final win over Mexico.
Rhoderick also did not allow an earned run in
the tourney. He worked 3.2 innings and had 7 Ks with only 2 bases on
balls.

| September 12, 2006 The Next Level workout held last Tuesday at Tempe
Diablo received rave reviews from everyone who attended. A reminder: if
you are serious about improving your game and trying to compete after high
school, the APEX ( www.apexbaseball.com)
program can be a huge benefit to both your on field performance and to
your off field decision making as you navigate the process. The next
workout is scheduled for Tuesday, September 26, 2006 at Tempe Diablo and
is open to any high school player. E mail info@apexbaseball.com
for more info.
While I was watching the internet feed of
the Connie Mack World Series championship game postgame awards, I thought
I heard and saw Notre Dame grad Dominic Piazza announced as an award
winner. Turns out I was right. The papers missed it and no one said
anything else about it, but Dom won the hitting award with his .589
average for the tournament and was named All Tournament. The performance
was also enough to convince the University of Nebraska to make him a
Cornhusker. Congrats to Dom and his family on an outstanding performance.
I heard from former Phoenix College Coach Ryan Reynolds yesterday. He
is now in the real estate business and an assistant coach at St. Martin's
University in Oregon.
Former Desert Vista and Arizona State catcher Joel Bocchi has accepted
a position as an assistant coach at McNeese State University in Louisiana.
